DEUTSCH KURZHAAR PUPPIES

Available and Upcoming Litter Information

Puppy Deposit/Payment Form

GSP puppies and boys Vom Covey Run Deutsch Kurzhaars is not a prolific breeding kennel; we generally breed only one Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK) litter per year, or less. We take advance deposits on our pups before they are born, and they are generally sold out long before they actually arrive. Puppies are sold only to hunting homes who will agree to test them in the German testing system as required by the German breed club.

Our "D" litter, was whelped September 3, 2006. For info on future planned litters, please visit our

Available and Upcoming Litter Information Page*

At various times we have liver, liver and white, black, and black and white DK puppies available, but color or coat pattern should never be the basis for choosing a particular dog, unless you are presented with two specimens otherwise equal in every regard. At Covey Run, we believe as the Germans believe: that "a good dog can't be a bad color". For this reason, we take deposits based on gender only, and not on color or coat pattern. Our pups are line bred from imported German dogs and dogs we have bred from our imported German stock. Our pups generally mature early, and are well-socialized, alert, and personable. We temperament test all of our puppies, as well as screen them for conformation and natural abilities in pointing, tracking, and retrieving prior to placement in their new homes. Tails are docked slightly longer than most American lines, as is the German tradition.

Pups are started on their vaccination and worming schedule and are introduced to live quail before placement. Additionally, Covey Run puppies get a head start on house training, and are generally using a doggie door to go outside by the age of 4-5 weeks. For your convenience, we provide new puppy owners with an informational packet, which includes health records, feeding recommendations, training tips, etc.

All our pups come with genetic and health guarantees against such disorders as Canine Hip Dysplasia, genetic heart defects, von Willebrand's, etc. If necessary, pups are replaced with another one from the next available litter*.

GSP puppy     Currently, our DK pups are $900. We require half of the purchase price ($450) as a deposit to reserve a puppy for you. The deposit is considered a binding commitment by both parties--it is refundable in the event we do not have enough puppies to fulfill our obligations, or may be applied to the next available litter, if desired, but not simply in the event you have a change of heart later. The balance and shipping-related charges, if applicable, are due before pick-up or shipping arrangements are finalized.

You are welcome to visit our kennel to see the litter in person and pick up your pup, whenever possible, but if time or travel constraints don't allow you to, we are always happy to ship your pup to you via airline to most locations. We take our job of choosing the right pup for you and your situation very seriously. We base our decision regarding which pup goes to which person on a number of things--temperament, conformation and abilities of a particular pup, along with information we gather about you, your family, your hunting style and frequency, your training and testing experience and commitment, your housing plans for the dog, etc.

For your convenience, we take frequent photos of the litter digitally, which we update on our website weekly as the puppies grow. Deposits are only taken based on gender, not on color or coat pattern preferences, etc. We can accept personal checks, money orders, cashier's checks, Visa, Mastercard, or Paypal.

For more information on availability, pedigrees, or additional photos, please email, or fill out our online response form. To see photos of some of the pups Covey Run has previously produced, please view the reference links in the left hand column of the page, or feel free to view our litter archives pages. .  .

*If owning and testing a vom Covey Run Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK) pup sounds like a commitment you'd like to make, or at least consider, please contact us for more information or visit our newest page:

"About the Deutsch Kurzhaar and the NADKC".

These are the things we ask our Covey Run
DK puppy buyers to commit to:

1. Love your dog and treat him/her as a member of your family
2. Join the NADKC and/or JGV-USA and follow all its testing,
breeding, and membership regulations
3. Intend to train the dog yourself for obedience and hunting
(with the help and advice of others)
4. Raise the dog in your home. (There is no comparison
between a kennel dog and a dog that is raised as part of a family)
5. Be a responsible owner--have a proper kennel to be used for
when the dog is unattended, a crate to be used when
the dog is being transported, and provide quality food, shelter,
& medical care for your dog
6. Be willing to expose the pup to live game, to properly train
him/her, to hunt with him/her, and to take the pup to, and handle him/her
at, the required tests

 BALDRIC VOM COVEY RUN

Owner: Paul Sankovich of OR

Hi Nancy,

Shoot is doing great. As you know, he received a Prize 2 in the NADKC Derby this spring. Currently, we're training for the Solms test this fall. Even as an adolescent he remains a good-natured, cooperative dog. He's generally a pleasure to be around, (although he does have his moments, LOL), which I attribute to his being so intelligent and getting bored fairly easily and finding ways (sometimes not so constructive) to entertain himself.  I think I mentioned once before that I found him oh so casually strolling around on the roof of my house one day? It's just little things like that, but you've gotta' love it! Better that than if he were content staring at the four walls of the house! We'll see you at the Solms in October, and thanks again for a wonderful pup.

--Paul

11-05 Update:

I've attached a photo of Shoot taken on opening day here in OR. As you can see, we got a couple of Chukar. Feel free to post it on your website if you wish. Who knows? Maybe someone will see it and say: Wow, he's a good looking guy. I'd like to breed to him. (If you get any inquiries, tell them I've already got a girlfriend! HA!)

--Paul
